Derech haTorah
For those who are new to word studies, derech hatorah has a very special meaning.
The word derech is usually translated as "way" in Scripture.
ha (as you will learn when you join our class) means "the"
torah is always translated as "law", but the word "law" gives a very restricted meaning to the Hebraic meaning of the word torah. The root of torah is yarah, which means "to point a finger", or "show a direction". It is also related to the falling of rain. So, although torah will include various kinds of laws, it really means "instruction" or "teaching".
So, derech hatorah means "the way of instruction".
When we learn Scripture we step onto the Way of Abba Father's instructions and teachings. Some of those are laws, putting borders in place to keep us from wandering off the track, but all of torah is there to point us in the direction Abba wants us to go.
Learning Hebrew just adds spice to our travels.
