M'reishiyt Hebrew Basics
Why are we doing this?
Every person who joins a class to learn Hebrew, has a reason why they want to do it. This reason can be a real desire to learn one of the languages of Scripture, or it can be an interest or curiosity that was kindled by listening to someone or reading a teaching where someone uses Hebrew or the meaning of words.
For some a Hebrew class is exactly what they were looking for - new challenges, new things to learn. For others it can be a let down, not quite what they expected. When we learn the language, it takes time to get to the "wow" stuff.
This is one of the reasons why we're revamping the course. We want to bring some of the "wow" stuff into each lesson, so that both groups of students can find something of their expectations. So, we will do more of the "why" and the "who" part of the course. Why are we doing this and Who is it all about?
Every lesson will include an aspect of the character of Y'hovah and we will be asking ourselves questions like: "how does learning the language and the grammatical structure of the language help me to understand who is this God that we serve?"
We will learn to take care in interpreting Scripture, how to see the true treasures, how to watch out for the pitfalls of misinterpretation or over-spiritualising. In other words, we will be working on developing discernment skills. But most of all, our goal will be to enjoy what Abba Father gave us - His Word - and a journey to get into a relationship with Him.
